Track: Arts & Sneaky Science
No matter the age, we are subjected to experiences, some considered entertainment, that have redeeming value, convey knowledge and ultimately educate us. But do we even realize the education that we are receiving?
This session will reveal ways to educate youth through new methods of learning so that they have a sporting chance at thriving in our world today and in the future.
Attendees will establish, uncover and discover the Disguised Learning that we’ve all observed and experienced as youth to better relate to the students/children they serve in their schools, classrooms, after-school programming, and camps. From there, we will establish the double play of STEM education paired with a Sport. Yes, it’s possible when the fact that there is science behind everything, including sports, is established!
To fortify this detail, workshop attendees will experience examples that they can easily replicate at their schools, classrooms, after-school programs, and camps to assist them in the cognition ignition that occurs when STEM & Sports come together.
We experience educational opportunities unbeknownst to us all the time. Some occur from viewing or participating in sports. The workshop will uncover ways to educate youth by combining STEM and Sports. Examples from STEM Sports™ curriculum kits, which serve elementary and middle school students, may include activities from STEM Basketball, STEM Football, STEM Soccer, and STEM Volleyball.
